Join us Saturday, June 1 at Mendota Rowing Club for this free event! You can get a hands-on experience of the great sport of rowing. We start with a short lesson on land to show you the mechanics of the rowing stroke, and then take you out on the water with experienced rowers in 4 or 8-person racing shells (weather permitting). Land activities at this open house include a tour of our historical boathouse, and review of our fleet of rowing shells.

Rowers range from age 11 to 91, so take this opportunity now, to learn to row!

Kids 11 and older may join the rowing lessons and ride in the rowing shell; younger kids are welcome to try the land activities. Children under 11 must be accompanied by a grown-up for the duration of the boathouse visit.

This registration is for Mendota Rowing Club Learn to Row instruction, which includes Summer Novice Membership until August 31. After completing this class, you are invited to continue learning and practicing skills -- and getting out on the water -- with coached Novice group practices. Specifics of Novice group meeting times will be announced and posted on the website when they get set up.

Again this year we'll start instruction with sweep rowing in team boats. Sweep boats have a coxswain who offers excellent direction to both the entire boat and to individuals. Based on class size and time constraints, we will potentially teach both sculling and sweep rowing techniques on land before transitioning to the water in boats. Please review the FAQ or contact learntorow@mendotarowingclub.com if you have any questions.

Swim test: Rowing is a water sport and it is important that you feel confident in the water. Prior to the first class, all students must take and successfully complete the Swim Test. Please see our Swim Test page for more details. If you have any doubt about passing the test, please plan to take it more than a week before class starts (so you can get a refund if necessary).

Registration: Fees must be paid in full 7 days before the first day of class. Payment must be made online.

Cancellation Policy: This session may be cancelled due to low enrollment. If Mendota Rowing Club calls the cancellation, you will receive a full refund. If a participant cancels their registration more than 7 days before the start of a session, a refund will be issued minus a $10.00 fee. Alternatively, a participant may change to another session where there is space available, free of charge, 7 or more days before their original start date. Please write learntorow@mendotarowingclub.com for guidance.

Registration and cancellation close one week prior to the first class meeting.

Please be advised: we keep safety as our highest priority. At the instructors' discretion, MRC may reschedule class meetings due to weather conditions.
