The
club had a successful day of racing Sunday at the Head of the Rock.
The Men’s Masters 4+, Women’s Masters 4+, and Mixed Masters 4+
all won their respective events. The juniors, novices, and other
adult boats all made strong showings against tough competition.

includes Amanda and Carter we’d like to get some more input. Topics
up for discussion are Volunteer Requirements and Student memberships.

Come
one, come all to the end of season party and raffle on Saturday,
November 7th at the Goodman Community Center (149 Waubesa St,
Madison). The party will be from 7:00-9:00 pm with the raffle
drawing at 8:00 pm. There will be appetizers, refreshments and
good company!
We
can also use your help beforehand to sell raffle tickets. Money
raised by this raffle will go towards the equipment fund. While
a particular piece of equipment has not been identified, some
potential purchases include a quad, wakeless launch, replacement dock
or a four. Stop down at the boathouse Saturday, October 17th
from 8:00-10:00 am to pick up tickets or contact Abby Mortimore via email or at 608-438-5712 to arrange picking up tickets. Our goal is to
raise $5000 to finish off matching the Grand Challenge Fund money.
With your help I know we can do it!

Attention
Members of Unity, Dean or Group Health insurance
programs - Rebates Possible
These
three health insurance entities have programs which enable their
members who exercise regularly to receive money - $100 or $200 per
person depending on the insurer. This is a wonderful way for
you to either raise some money for equipment at Mendota or lower your
costs of membership at Mendota. Each program has its own rules
and proceedures. The programs will certainly apply to adult rowers
and in some cases to junior rowers. There is a poster in
the erg room giving a summary of the programs. You can also see
information on your insurer's websites - links are provided below.
Two of the programs require Mendota to either keep logs of the
exercise activity (rowing and erging) or certify your logs. In
this regard, Ron Adams has generously offered to be the coordinator
for these health insurance rebates. He will work with the
coaches to obtain these logs and sign some of the forms required by
insurers. In two cases, the forms for 2009 will be due at year
end. We will be spending November putting everything in place
and then should be ready to process forms in December. In some
cases (such as Unity) you will also need to go onto their website to
do a short enrollment.
These
rebate programs could be a painless way for Mendota to raise funds
for needed equipment so please consider participating and then
donating the rebates to Mendota. (Unfortunately Physicians Plus
does not current have this program for health clubs - if you use PP,
feel free to go on their website and submit an idea for improvement

Despite the rain, there was a bustle of activity and
excitement Wednesday morning at the James Madison Park boathouse. It
was the last day of a four-week adaptive rowing course and participants
and volunteers were too busy setting up the boat shells to let a little
rain slow them down.
The adaptive rowing group consists of 10
participants and approximately twenty volunteers. The participants have
varying physical disabilities, including spinal cord injuries, multiple
sclerosis and spina bifida, and most are in wheelchairs. http://www.madison.com/wsj/mad/top/457725
